Over
the years IBM has done an impressive job of keeping the iSeries
functionally "fresh," while
protecting users' investment in legacy applications and skills. This
is certainly the case in the area of Business Intelligence (BI).
This presentation will review iSeries capabilities as a Business
Intelligence platform. We'll begin with a survey of generic BI concepts
and capabilities: query, OLAP (can you differentiate among the following
OLAP flavors: MOLAP, ROLAP, HOLAP, DOLAP? there'll be a quiz!), data
mining (do you know how NBA coaches use data mining technology? find
out at this presentation!), data warehousing (do you know the difference
between such data warehouse designs as star schema, snowflake, operational
data store? come and find out!), and, ETL (Extract/Transform/Load).
We'll then focus in on BI in the iSeries environment, with a look
at the applicability of iSeries architecture to BI, DB2/400 as a
BI Database (including some special BI-related functions), and analytical
and ETL tools that work on (and with) the iSeries. We'll conclude
with a quick look at the "lifecycle" of Business Intelligence
solution development
